Building community is one of the pillars of Blaze Trails Running. The foundation of that community has always been the safety of our runners and volunteers. To ensure that safety, we will make some changes to minimize the potential spread of COVID-19. Since it is anticipated that vaccines for COVID-19 will not be widely available until spring at the earliest, our permit requires us to implement additional COVID-19 precautions.

We recognize that there is a lot of conflicting information and points of view about COVID-19. Our decisions are to make everyone feel comfortable and to meet requirements of our permit and insurance. Please respect all rules.

First, here’s what won’t change:

  • The trails. They are still beautiful and peaceful.
  • Our volunteers. They are amazing and we couldn’t do this race without them. Please help us keep them safe.
  • Our excitement to see you cross the finish line. We won’t give you a hug, but we will celebrate your accomplishment.
We are still finalizing plans and will communicate decisions along the way. We believe that during the race itself, the risk for exposure is lower because in most races, runners tend to get spread out. The changes we will implement are to minimize areas where runners or volunteers tend to congregate in close proximity to others.

Here are some of the changes you will see:

  • Social distancing will be required and enforced in all high traffic areas.
  • A lower number of participants will be allowed to register for the in-person races. This will impact the half marathon the most.
  • We will not host our post-race meal. We will miss this time with all of you, but we need to discourage close, prolonged group gatherings.
  • Masks/face coverings will be mandatory at the start/finish, all aid stations, and when running near or passing other runners.
  • Races will be chip timed and start in waves. Start times on the website are from previous years. Your actual start time might be earlier or later.
  • Aid stations will be stocked differently to reduce the number of volunteers needed and reduce time spent at aid stations.
We’re excited to start back up! It is our hope that with the vaccines being introduced, our fall races will return to normal. In the meantime, stay safe.

See you on the trails, soon!
