100 Mile Course Description

100 Mile – Full Course Map

The course is 34.1 miles and is a combination of loop and out-and-back sections of trail run three times for a total of 102.3 miles. Each 34.1 mile “loop” has about 2500 feet of elevation gain for a total of around 7500 feet for the entire distance.

  • Trails colored in Pink highllight outbound trails from the Start/Finish at Duke’s Forest Campground.
  • Trails colored in Yellow are inbound trails back to the Start/Finish at Duke’s Forest Campground.
  • The trail highlighted in Orange is the “Race Loop Trail” which starts and finishes at Duke’s Forest Campground.
  • Trails colored in two colors (represented as a dashed line) highlight sections of the course that have two-way traffic or where a segment of the course shares the trail with another section.

Drop bags are allowed only at Duke’s Forest (Start/Finish) and at the Buzards Roost Aid Station. We will deliver your drop bag to the Buzards Roost aid station if they are brought to us before 6:00 PM on Friday prior to the race. Drop bags will be returned to the Start/Finish after the Buzards Roost Aid Station closes on Sunday.

100 Mile – Segment 1

Start/Finish to Cisco Road Aid Station

Outbound – 2.8 Miles (Shown in PINK)

Important details:

  • FOLLOW THE PINK ROUTE.
  • From the Start/Finish, Head east on Duke’s Forest Road. (The paved road you drove in on.)
  • The very first section is shared by two legs of the course. This is shown as a dashed line alternating in PINK AND ORANGE. On this section, BOTH legs go in the same direction. On the first leg, you will continue past the turnoff for the ORANGE route, continuing straight almost to the end of the road before turning left to meet up with the first section of the course.
  • On this leg two sections of the course that have two way traffic. Both both sections cross a bridge. These are shown on the map as a dashed line alternating between PINK and YELLOW.
  • Just before arriving at the Cisco Road Aid Station you will cross a paved road (Cisco Road) this is a lightly trafficked road but for safety make sure you look both ways before crossing.

100 Mile – Segment 2

Cisco Road Aid Station to Buzzards Roost

Outbound – 5.5 Miles (Shown in PINK)

Important details:

  • LEAVING THE AID STATION CONTINUE ON THE PINK ROUTE.
  • There are three sections of the course on this segment that have two way traffic. Shown
  • On this leg, three sections of the course that have two way traffic. These are shown on the map as a dashed line alternating between PINK and YELLOW.
    1. The first section is very short just after leaving the aid station.
    2. The next section is about 1 mile from the aid station.
    3. The last section joins the out and back section of the course just after passing the park office. After this point the course is two-way traffic all the way to Tucker Tower.

Buzzard’s Roost to Tucker Tower

Outbound – 5.4 Miles (Shown in PINK)

  • This section of the course is an out and back and only has two-way traffic. (Shown as a PINK and YELLOW dashed line.)

Tucker Tower to Buzzard’s Roost

Inbound – 5.4 Miles (Shown in YELLOW)

  • This section of the course is an out and back and only has two-way traffic. (Shown as a PINK and YELLOW dashed line.)

100 Mile – Segment 5

Buzzard’s Roost to Cisco Road

Inbound – 5.6 Miles (Shown in YELLOW)

Important details:

  • This segment has three areas where there are two-way traffic. These are shown on the map as a dashed line alternating between PINK and YELLOW.
    1. Leaving the Aid Station, continue on the YELLOW route. There will be two-way traffic until just before reaching the park office.
    2. About 1 mile past the park office the course re-converges for a short period of time.
    3. A very short section going into the aid station.

100 Mile – Segment 6

Cisco Road to Duke’s Forest (Start/Finish)

Inbound – 4.1 Miles (Shown in YELLOW)

Important details:

  • LEAVING THE AID STATION CONTINUE ON THE ROUTE MARKED IN YELLOW.
  • Upon leaving the aid station you will turn to the RIGHT on Cisco Road and run a very short way before taking a LEFT on a concrete path for approximately 1/3 of a mile. USE CAUTION running on Cisco Road.
  • This segment of the course has three areas where there are two-way traffic.
    • The first two are the bridges you crossed earlier. These are shown on the map as a dashed line alternating between PINK and YELLOW.
    • The last is shared with the last leg of the course and is shown on the map as a dashed line alternating in YELLOW and ORANGE.

100 Mile – Segment 7

Duke’s Forest back to Duke’s Forest (Start/Finish)

5.3 Miles (Shown in ORANGE)

Important details:

  • This section of the course is a 5.3 mile loop. Shown in ORANGE on the map.
  • Leaving the Start/Finish, head east on Duke’s Forest Road until you come to the first turn. This is shown as a dashed line alternating in PINK and ORANGE.
  • At the turn take a left onto the route marked in ORANGE.
  • There is one section of this segment that is shared with Segment 6 of the course and is shown on the map as a dashed line alternating in ORANGE and YELLOW.
